Good hair day
On the way home from work today I sat down on the uptown 1 train and saw this: blue ombré hair with a Betty Paige bang. How can you get more amazing?? Not to mention the bad-ass neck jewels. I wish I had told her she rocked... I wasn't a total puss, she had earphones in.

My New Face
So as it happens my face powder is running out so a trip to Sephora is in order. I thought about just getting another powder compact - I have been using Tarte - but then I thought that I'm not completely happy with my coverage so I decided I would try something else but didn't know what yet. As I was pondering this I was lucky enough to go to the MAC Pro store on 23rd and met the most beautiful woman with flawless skin and a platinum jagged bob - hmmmm potential?? She was wearing mascara, the perfect shade it matte red lipstick and light, warm blush with a slight bronzed tone. First I just asked about the lipstick and how she kept it from bleeding. So I purchased the MAC lip primer AND the retro matte ruby lipstick. The first time I wore it I out it on at 9am. It made it through 2 burgers (I know wrong on so many levels in one day) and when I got home at 9 that night it was still on and the line was softer but not bleeding - I did reapply the red after breakfast. AMAZING!! I have slowly been converting from drug store makeup to Sephora - I know they say that they are the same but I think Sephora is better. And since I already made that move MAC wasn't that much more so I decided to try their facemakeup. I went to the store in Macy's on 34th street. Normally I avoid that store and area like the plague but I had an appointment in the area and time to kill. I hopped over to the sales counter and started reading up on the products which didn't help much. Then a lovely girl from Arkansas came over and asked if I needed help. Yes please. She went over powder vs liquid etc and I explained I'm a powder girl and have never been fan of the liquid plus I don't want to feel like I'm wearing anything. She said that liquid was the best way to go and the only way to yet the look I saw in the pro store so I said why not. So I plopped in the chair and had my face down. The liquid was weird and still required a powder to set it. But after I looked in the mirror I was sold! It was flawless, even toned skin that looked natural!! I was totally stoked and excited at my find. I love how it looks. It does stink that now my makeup gets on my phone and I have to be more careful with clothing around my face but it is so worth the payoff. I look in the mirror and feel so much prettier. I don't even need to do my eyes. I got my hair cut today and normally avoid looking in the mirror too much. I have always thought I was a decent looking broad but nothing to stair at. I couldn't take my eyes off my face. It was glorious. The even tone made me feel so perfect to look at. Like a magazine ad. The extra confidence is enough to carry me through the still fairly frequent trips in my new wedges - it takes a few wears to get use to a 4 inch lift. Anyway, if you are up for a change and an instant ego boost I highly recommend trying the full face.
PS if you are lazy like me and sometimes leave your eye makeup on over night just in case you don't have time to re-do it the next morning QUIT IT!!! My Mac girl says that causes wrinkles which would undo all of the preventative anti-wrinkle products I have been using since the age of 15. Who knew? I guess being lazy always gets you in the end.

Buffalo exchange here I come!
I cleaned out my closet earlier this year and took my edits to Beacons Closet on Brooklyn. They took some but not all of my things but I was pleased with the money I got. Now I still find myself going through my closet with nothing to wear! So I decided to take a second look. A lot of the things I was holding onto were left over from my office days. Dress pants and shirts etc. Some things - like blazers - I have successfully converted into my freelance wardrobe but I am never going to wear the black dress pants that I didn't wear while I was working in the office! I know better, I dressed people for a living. But the million closet must have articles that I have read since the ago if 15 all distill that black dress pants are a MUST and I guess it was deep ingrained in my brain. There were a lot of other pieces I kept because I thought this is something that will come back, good quality. Then I realize it's from H & M. If it comes back I'll buy a new one. It's sort liberating to get ride of all these things I felt were so necessary but never wore. I like to think of this process - which has been going on for several days and included a cosmetics makeover, but that's another story - my adult makeover. I have decided to but pieces that are if higher quality and build a look I like rather than just buying things I like that don't really work well together. A true wardrobe if you will. It's about time! As I have now collected 5 bags of shoes and clothes (more to come!) I am realizing that I wear about 10% of what is actually in my closet! How sick is that? The man was right all along, but I'll never admit to that. Ever. So right now Monday is the big purge day. As long as I don't have to work I will be taking a large suitcase over to the new Exchange in Chelsea to take the next step in becoming an adult. At least in the wardrobe department:)

Hudson Valley Adventure!
So this weekend we rented a beautiful full size Dodge SUV (don't worry, it was the new fuel efficient kind) and drove upstate to look at some wedding venues and maybe check out sone antiques.
The first place we hit was Circa 1799 Barn

Amazing, right?? It's 200 years old and in the restoration process they actually moved the barn to another town. The owner, Paul, who is the nicest man told us they have made a point to keep all the graffiti - ie The M hearts J carvings. Really beautiful. (these pics are from the Circa 1799 website)

The barn at night, how could you not want to get married here??

Bon fire!!
My pics :
After our visit to Circa 1799 we had time for a little antiquing. We came across a really huge antique store that had isle after isle of furniture, mainly dressers. Over the past few months we have been filtering out old furniture - like the things I have had since college - and replacing it with grown up piece. Jason is more of a new guy where as i prefer old. We just got new bedside tables so time for something old! After walking the isles at least 5 times I finally decided on a beautiful mahogany dresser from the 1940's with great brass hard wear.

Luckily we got the full size SUV and it fit right in the back with the seats down. When we finally got it we realized how heavy it was - who makes dressers from solid wood these days??? And had to ask our super nice neighbors to help us out a bit. The guys had it up the first flute of stairs with our neighbor Tara walked out and said "I use to move around my room all the time with my sister. We always took the drawers out. Made it easier.".....
The second place we visited was The Inn at Stone Ridge we met with the manager, Marie, and she showed us the grounds. The rooms we really well decorated. The type of room you want to get dressed in before your wedding. They don't have a barn but they have a large area for a tent on their lawn as well as a fire pit. The Inn owns a lot of acreage and they have orchards where you can pick your own apples and pears. Marie's husband in the inn chef and makes all of the food for the weddings.

The website pics are small. It is lovely but there is no barn:(
The final place we visited was the Full Moon Resort When we arrived we were impressed with the grounds. Even with some of the ground still frozen it was beautiful. The main house is cute and eclectically decorated. It turned out there were several couples taste sampling for their weddings so we were able to tag along and try a few things - delicious!! We met with one of the owners who gave us the run down and we were pretty much sold. Then the tour began... The guest rooms in the main house share a bathroom. The walls are white and they are filled with twin beds with chenille bedspreads(we were assured that the twins could be converted into doubles) This was disappointing but not the end of the world. Ww continued on the tour. All of the locations for the wedding - tent, barn, after party loft, fire pit etc were fantastic. Really nicely laid out and well maintained. We took a tour of the rest of the resort and were completely turned off by the room accommodations. They were disappointing at best, then add the price of the room and we would have been embarrassed to have any of our guests stay in them. The resort requires that all of the rooms be booked for the wedding weekend and we just couldn't do it, which is sad because the rest of the resort is quite lovely. The room images on the website are a bit deceptive - we don't need the Ritz but a little comfort would be nice and would have sealed the deal for us.

This Sunday also happened to be my best friend Bethany's birthday! She is in Nepal on a Fulbright scholarship so I haven't seen her in a while.
